The H6 MAX may be large, but it packs an attitude that matches its size. The 20-inch wheels and 4-inch fat tires don’t shy away from uneven terrain or bumpy roads.

It is a Class 2 bike with a throttle to give you that much-needed boost as you cycle uphill or when you want to cruise without breaking a sweat.

The original selling price for this fast folding ebike was $2,499 but at the time of writing it was on offer for $1,899, making it a worthwhile investment.

This step-through foldable electric bike is quick, lagging behind the H6 MAX by only a few miles per hour.

Aventon’s Sinch Step-Thru (ST) has a 500 W motor that gives you enough power to get up steep hills, even without pedaling. The wide 4-inch tires mean you can also take this ebike off-road. Because of its weight of 68 lbs, it’s not the most portable foldable e bike on our list.

The Lectric XP 3.0 doesn’t mess about when it comes to speed, either. The integrated battery powers a 500 W rear hub motor (1,000 W peak) that provides up to 55 Nm of torque.

The real surprise element with this bike is its price. Lectric claims that the XP 3.0 is the “first ebike under $1,000 with hydraulic disc brakes”. Now, that really is affordable.

This ebike is very comfortable, with a front suspension fork and suspension seat with a gel saddle. You can ride for miles with this bike without cramping or struggling with sore legs.

The RadExpand 5 is described by Rad Power Bikes as a “rugged space-saver”. This bike is not only designed for fun but also to fold up, making it very portable. Out of our list, only the Blix Vika+ Flex, discussed below, is lighter. You can easily pop the RadExpand 5 in your car’s trunk or stash it at the office.

The ebike has four levels of pedal assistance and a seven-speed drivetrain. This combines into a fun-to-ride and practical ebike.

The Blix Vika+ Flex is not the fastest ebike on our list, but it is the most portable. At 20 mph, it still has a decent speed, and the folding mechanism means that not only does it ride fast, it’s quick to pack and store away.

Blix constructed the Vika+ Flex with attention to detail, combining high-performance components that are suitable for almost any riding conditions. It is also a visual feast for the eyes, with a lovely step-through frame and a variety of color choices.

The very first thing to consider is how you want to use the bike. Is it for occasional trips to the store, some low-impact exercise around the local park, your sole method of transport, or off-road riding?

These factors will come into play when you’re looking at the battery range and motor power. For short commutes or casual riding, a bike with lower power and a shorter range will be the best option (and more affordable).

But if you plan on longer rides or are looking for off-road capabilities, you’ll want something with a higher power output and different pedal assist levels.

The second most important factor to consider for a folding ebike is exactly how foldable it is.

For those of us planning to put our ebikes in the car’s trunk or take it along on buses or trains, you don’t want to lug a heavy and bulky folded ebike with you. If you plan on using it from home or have storage space at the office, then the folded size matters less.

Some folding mechanisms are simply easier and quicker than others because of the ebike’s design and size.

The best way to determine the portability of the bike would be to look at it in person. That way you can check how quickly it folds and how compact it really is.
